Hercules K103GS | 1963

Restauration by Mark Reul

I bought this bike in Germany, somewhere in 2004 and with the help of Leo, it arrived at my place in december 2004.
The previous owner tried to restore the bike, but a lot needed to be redone.
The colour choise for the tank was wrong, a kind of bright blue.
Some of the official bikes were blue indeed, but the right colour of the tank for this model was red.
The rear of the tank was repaired and with Restom the tank was treated against rust.
I painted the tank in the original Red colour and placed the new Hercules tank logos, which I bought from "Pelders Transfers" in Holland.
The front fender and holders were out, luckely I had a complete original spare frontfender. The original front schocks were completely rebuild by Marc Van Woensel.
The engine which looked Ok, at first sight, needed to be rebuild completely. The piston rings, altough new ones, were the wrong size, so that the engine had no compression at all. I bought a new oversize piston in Germany, and the cilinder was redone by Chris Homoet.
Also the conrod, needed to be replaced. Luckely, I had bought in 2001 parts of two old 4 gear Sachs GS engines of Karl Heinz Matutat who rode the Hercules Geländesport back in the sixties. Out of 2 engines I had build a good one and on this engine the rebored cilinder was placed.
The carburetor was renewed with parts from Bing (you can buy everything for those old Bings !)
The first test was perfect, the engine runs smootly!
A new sprocket and chain was made by Kitcross in Belgium (a compagny which I can strongly recomend).
From Volker Gering I bought an old style tankbag, very expensive, but looks like the original one.
The bike still need some work, number plates, rear light, but will be ready for the enduro senioren meeting on white sunday.

I bought this bike in Germany with the help of Leo Keller
(our homephotographer), somewhere in 2004.
Here the motorbike is still in Germany...

...and hoppa...now in Belgium...aaaahhh...in my workshop!!

The rear of the tank was repaired and with Restom
the tank was treated against rust.

This is much better, with the tank repaired...

In 2001 I bought another engine like this...
I put all the good stuff from the 2 engines in one good engine.

This is much better, fuel tank in the right color...

Rear-shocks done by Marc Van Woensel.

Special treatment by Marcules...

With the new Hercules tank logos, which I bought
from "Pelders Transfers" in Holland.

Cylinder done by Chris Homoet.

For this -old fashion way- tankbag...euhhhh...I paid a lot of euros,
but it looks great for me!!!

The Hercules still needs a lot of work...but you can see at this moment...
at this photo, it already looks great...
